Boykin’s lobelia is a perennial plant in the family Campanulaceae. It is currently known from fewer than 70 occurrences in South Carolina. There are large populations at Ditch Bay, Grays Bay, and Florida Bay. It is a rhizomatous plant and it might resurface after fire removes woody vegetation from the landscape. Ex situ collections of this species are a priority, as are surveys done during the May-August flowering period.
i am thinking lots of this appeared in yard (acreage at I-20 Elgin exit) and decided to allow it to revert to meadow. i thought it was too pretty to mow so i dug up many for vases and to replant in other areas in hopes it would reseed next yr
